Collection: Therese Nortvedt

Therese Nortvedt was born in Oslo in 1953 and grew up in Hølen. She lives and works in Oslo and London.

Nortvedt studied at the Art Academy in Trondheim and then at Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design in London. She then studied scenography at the English National Opera Theater Design School in London, and then the Norwegian Academy of Fine Arts in Oslo.

While she was studying, she had her first solo exhibition in Galleri Cassandra and Galleri Norske Grafikere in Oslo. Since the beginning of the 1980s, Nortvedt has exhibited in prominent art institutions such as Henie Onstad Art Center, Sardye Bronfman Art Center, Montreal, Canada, Sunderland Art Center, UK, Horsens Art Museum and Nordisk Artcentrum, Helsinki.

After Nortvedt moved to New York in 1981, she was the first Norwegian artist to be awarded the prestigious scholarship with a studio at MoMa PS1 in New York in 1983/84. During the 5 years she lived in New York, Nortvedt had extensive exhibition activities at B-side Gallery, The American Scandinavian Foundation, The Clocktower, ABC NO RIO, Frank Bernaducci and New Math Gallery.

From the 1990s, Nortvedt had a solo exhibition in Galleri Brandstrup, "Frozen Moments" in October Gallery in London, Bergen Kunstforening, Gallery C, Århus, Galleri Asbæk, Denmark and was a festival exhibitor in Haugesund Picture Gallery during the Film Festival in Haugesund.

After Nortvedt moved back to London in 2002, she had the solo exhibition. "The Future Player" with Pollock Fine Art which also showed her works at the Art Fair ART 2003. Galerie Anna Klinkhammer in Düsseldorf, showed her paintings at the exhibition Valperga and represented her works at the Istanbul Art Fair and the Swab Art Fair in Barcelona. In 2009, Nortvedt had a solo exhibition at Galerie Christian Roellin in St. Gallen, Switzerland, and the following year she exhibited at The Big World at the Fabian and Claude Walter Galerie in Zurich.

In 2011/12 Nortvedt had a large solo exhibition, The Conspiracy in the gallery Villa Goecke/ Ralph Kleinsimlingshaus in Krefeld in Germany. In 2012, Landscape of Memory at NoFormat Gallery in London and Commonalities, curated by Noah Becker/White Hot Magazine at NOoSphere Gallery in New York.

In 2016, Nortvedt was a festival exhibitor in Galleri EKG in connection with the Kirsten Flagstad festival.

In 2017, Petter Olsen's museum of his large art collection opened at Ramme Gård in Hvitsten outside Oslo. Therese Nortvedt's paintings are represented in the collection.
